Politics and assorted chocolates

I'm feeling very "activist-y" tonight.

First, let me say that I did not watch the debates. They make me uncomfortable. Also, watching the most powerful man in the free world mispronounce words like "nuclear" and "terror" makes me want to cry.

BUT, hooray for the U.S. House of Representatives for not voting in favor of a constitutional amendment. KY's representatives voted for it. Therefore, they received a very angry message from me, in which I demanded that, if they are so concerned with protecting the sanctitiy of marriage, they take active steps to avoid quickie weddings and divorces (Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, I'm looking in your direction), and to require mandatory pre-marital counseling for ANYONE to get married, not just to get married in a church.

Suck on that. And then suck on it some more.

I hate Dr. Phil. He is the most unethical psychologist I've ever seen. If he actually HAS a license, then someone has fucked up. You do not, and I mean you NEVER, tell someone that his or her child will grow up to be a serial killer. There may be a correlation between certain behaviors and deviance, but did he miss intro to stats or something? Remember that whole "Correlation does not equal causation" thing? Also, you never make accusatory statements to your clients. People will NOT heal from that show.

In short, Dr. Phil, stop filling people's heads with your misinformed bullshit proprganda in the name of psychology. Psychology it is not.

Finally. I cannot stand getting religious forwards from people in my sorority. Usually, I just delete them, but they're always from the same girl. I've actually already told her how I feel, but tonight I had to remind her. She sent out something that said something like 85% of Americans believe in God (which I think is a little high, personally, and perhaps she should stop taking statistics from Focus on the Family with Dr. Dobson). Furthermore, apparently those of us who don't believe in the commingling of religion and politics should get out of the country.

No, I'm not kidding.

So, I politely reminded her that: 1. People came to this country looking for religious and personal freedom, 2. This country does not, and has never had an official religion. If she wants to be oppressed religiously, she's the one who can kindly get the fuck out, and 3. most importantly, the "religious right" is actively attempting to keep the people I love from expressing their love to each other in a way that she is able to. And in doing so, they are denying more than 1200 personal rights and freedoms from all gay and lesbian people.

And, no kidding, the girl thinks of herself as a "fag hag." I've never met one of those who was so actively trying to ethnically cleanse the damn country.

I'm going to visit my grandparents tomorrow night. They're in the process of moving and will be auctioning off their house and a lot of their stuff Saturday morning. Fortunately, I read that my grandpa will be getting rid of his guns. Men with dementia should not be allowed to bear arms. I know, I believe in 1st amendment rights and all, but, if you forget your name and insist on whacking off to porn all day, I think for everyone else's safety, you lose that priviledge. Not that it's his fault, but come on. One Christmas, he pulled out his gun to show the family (grandchildren and all) and couldn't remember if it was loaded. Nothing quite like having a man with Alzheimer's point a gun all over the room, not knowing if it could go off at any time.

In other news, I bought my tickets to the Green Day concert in Cincinnati, and Niki and I will be bunking with my parents afterward. I really hate driving back to Lexington after a concert out of state. I'm always afraid that I'm going to fall asleep at the wheel. It's strange that someone I've known for almost 6 years has never met my stepfather, and barely has met my mom. Normally this is something my friends do pretty quickly.

At long last, they're finally starting to bring movies to Lexington that I want to see. Among them are:

Team America: World Police
We Don't Live Here Anymore
The Grudge
Shark Tale
Taxi

Happy day, indeed. Thank you people, for not sucking so much right now.

Does anyone else think it's hilarious that they're re-releasing Aladdin with music by people who were still in grade school when it was originally released? I mean, Clay Aiken? Nothing says "I'm not gay, dammit!" more than offering a song to the soundtrack of a 10-year old flick. From Disney.

Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say
Please share my umbrella
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
Under my umbrella.

Because I cannot get enough of Deidrich Bader.

Fin.
